In Tamil, Pandikai means in olden days 'things to exchange' viz, farmers will exchange paddy for their cultivation utility equipments; like washermen will get a part of paddy cultivated for his dhobby works done for the agri-culturist family. Now every labour has been valued by currency. In northern sector of our country wheat is harvested during Sept,& Oct, farmers will give wheat for annual clothes and so for annual provisions for houses. Now this pandikai had infiltrated all over India. People in all walks of life are celebrating 'Diwali' even by getting loan. Is it necessary? Now-a-days youths enjoy and celebrate 'New Year'[1 Jan] and people also used to go to temple to celebrate New Year by worshipping God! Is it a necessary one? We are importing poisonous cultures which are left away by the western country people like discotheque, dating. Nobody will.
